Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of being booed by his own supporters at the Santiago Bernabéu, admitting the treatment affects him deeply whenever performances fall below expectations.
The Brazilian winger has, on several occasions, been jeered by sections of the home crowd, particularly during difficult games. Once the undisputed attacking focal point of Los Blancos, Vinicius now shares the spotlight following the arrival of France captain Kylian Mbappé last season, who has quickly become a fan favourite.
Vinicius, however, delivered a timely reminder of his quality on Tuesday night, producing a man-of-the-match performance as Real Madrid thrashed Monaco 6–0 in the UEFA Champions League. He capped an outstanding display with a goal and two assists to inspire the emphatic victory.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, the 24-year-old also addressed speculation surrounding his future, insisting he wants to remain at the club for many years despite having just one year left on his current contract.
“I want to stay at Real Madrid for a long time,” Vinicius said.
“My renewal? I still have another year left. We’re very relaxed. I trust the president, he trusts me, and we have a very good relationship. We will sort things out at the right time. There’s no hurry.”
The winger then opened up on the pain of being booed by his own fans at home.
“It makes me very sad. I don’t want to be booed at home,” he admitted.
“In the last few games, I didn’t feel comfortable because whenever I did something wrong, they booed me.
“But the fans have the right. They pay very expensive tickets. I don’t understand it, but I’m here to keep evolving.”
Vinicius emphasized his commitment to the club and his desire to be remembered positively for his contributions.
“I want to be remembered for everything I’ve done for this club. The demands are high and I have to meet them every day. I try to give everything for this shirt and for a club that has given me so much,” he added.
Reflecting on his performance against Monaco, the Brazilian concluded, “When I can get more touches on the ball, it’s better for me.”
Despite the pressure and criticism, Vinicius’ latest display underlined his importance to Real Madrid — and his determination to keep delivering at the highest level.
