The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has restated its commitment to conducting transparent, fair and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mahmud Isah, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting held to mark the resumption of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
Dr Isah said the success of the CVR exercise and future elections would largely depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, stressing that INEC alone cannot deliver a credible electoral process.
He called on political parties, traditional institutions, security agencies, civil society groups and the media to work closely with the commission to ensure a hitch-free registration process and credible elections in 2027.
“I urge all stakeholders to join hands with the commission to ensure a credible election in 2027,” the REC said.
Dr Isah also emphasised that it is the civic duty of all eligible Nigerians to register with INEC and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in order to participate meaningfully in the electoral process.
He disclosed that INEC has approved the nationwide resumption of the CVR exercise, noting that online pre-registration would continue, while physical registration at INEC local government offices across the country is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2026.
The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by the Emirs of Gusau and Maru, representatives of political parties including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Also present were members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), security agencies and media organisations.
