“INEC Now APC Department” — Dino Melaye Blasts Electoral Body Over Alleged Bias

A former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of partisanship, alleging that the electoral body now operates as an extension of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks in a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, where he criticised INEC for what he described as a misinterpretation of a court order and actions that have undermined public trust.

According to him, the conduct of the commission has eroded confidence in its neutrality, calling for decisive action against those responsible.

“We expect that the President will either sack them or they will resign themselves, because INEC has misinterpreted the order of the court and shown clear partiality,” Melaye said.

“They have demonstrated that they are now a department of the APC, and we have lost confidence in them.”

The comments come amid heightened political tension following a protest at INEC headquarters by prominent figures within the ADC, including factional Interim National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others.

The protest was staged in response to the alleged delisting of the ADC, a development that has further fueled concerns over the independence and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
