The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic circulating online which claims that March 26 has been fixed as the deadline for government officials seeking elective offices to resign.
In a statement released on Friday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Commission clarified that the information did not originate from INEC and described the graphic as misleading and unverified.
INEC urged the public, media organisations and political stakeholders to completely disregard the circulating message, warning that the false information could create unnecessary confusion about the electoral process.
The electoral body stressed that all official announcements regarding elections and related timelines are communicated strictly through its verified platforms.
These include the Commission’s official website, www.inecnigeria.org, its verified social media accounts, and formal press releases issued by the Commission.
INEC also advised citizens to verify election-related information through these official channels before sharing it publicly, in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing the public with accurate, timely and transparent information on electoral matters.
