INEC Assures Nigerians: 2023 IREV Glitch Fixed, Won’t Recur

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians that the technical glitch experienced on the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal during the 2023 general elections has been fully resolved.

Prof. Amupitan gave the assurance on Sunday while speaking at the Citizens’ Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act 2026 held in Abuja.

Addressing stakeholders at the forum, the INEC chairman expressed confidence that the issues that affected the IREV platform during the 2023 polls would not resurface in future elections.

“The glitch in INEC IREV in 2023 has been eliminated. By God’s grace, it will not surface in Nigeria again,” he stated.

The IREV portal had drawn widespread public attention during the 2023 general elections following technical challenges that delayed the upload of presidential election results in real time, raising concerns among political parties and civil society groups.

Meanwhile, the Senate recently approved the electronic transmission of election results, while retaining manual collation as a backup mechanism.

In a related development, President Bola Tinubu has signed the Electoral Act 2026 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill into law, less than 24 hours after its passage by the National Assembly.

The new law is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process and address gaps identified in previous elections.
