Igbokwe Slams Wike–Basiru Feud, Calls Clash ‘Unnecessary Distraction’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and social media commentator, Joe Igbokwe, has condemned the public exchange between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the National Secretary of the ruling party, Ajibola Basiru, describing it as needless and avoidable.

The feud followed renewed tensions between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Basiru had openly expressed support for Governor Fubara, a stance that drew a sharp reaction from Wike during an event in Rivers State on Monday, where the minister warned the APC national secretary to stay out of the state’s political affairs.

In response, Basiru issued a statement urging Wike to resign his ministerial appointment and concentrate on what he termed an “obsession” with Rivers State politics.

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe, in a post shared on his Facebook page, faulted both parties for escalating the disagreement in public.

“The altercations between Hon. Minister FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the National Secretary APC Nigeria, Ajibola Basiru, are totally uncalled for and unnecessary. It is a needless distraction,” he wrote.

Warning against the political consequences of such infighting, Igbokwe added, “If out of annoyance you remove your cap and throw it away, a made man will pick it up and use it forever. Let the misunderstanding cease to exist now.”

His intervention comes amid growing concerns within the party over internal disputes and their potential impact on unity and governance.
