Igboho Raises Alarm as Suspected Herdsmen Kill Three Farmers in Oyo Community

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has raised fresh alarm over worsening insecurity in Oyo State following the killing of three farmers in his hometown, Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area of the state.

The victims—Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka, and Ojeniyi Ojebayo—were reportedly attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen while working on their farms. The farmers were said to have resisted the destruction of their crops by grazing cattle before they were allegedly hacked during the confrontation.

Although they were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, the three farmers later died from the injuries sustained in the attack.

Reacting to the incident in a statement on Sunday, Igboho called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and address the escalating insecurity in rural communities across Oyo State and the wider South West region.

According to him, the attack underscores long-standing warnings he has issued about the growing presence of armed herdsmen, bandits, and other criminal elements in forests and rural settlements across the South West, as well as parts of Kwara and Kogi states.

“On Sunday, three innocent people were killed in my town, Igboho. This is exactly what I have been warning the government about for years. Nothing has changed, and our people continue to suffer attacks while those responsible roam freely,” he said.

Igboho lamented that insecurity has become a daily reality for residents of the Oke-Ogun axis, stressing that farmers and local dwellers now live in fear while livelihoods are being destroyed.

He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy actionable intelligence and effective security measures to curb attacks and prevent further loss of lives and property.

“The tolerance of the affected communities has reached its elastic limit. The government must act decisively before residents feel compelled to take the law into their own hands in self-defence,” he warned.

Igboho further called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for attacks and killings in South West communities, insisting that perpetrators must face the full weight of the law.

The incident adds to growing concerns over farmer-herder clashes and rural insecurity in several parts of the country, with residents and community leaders repeatedly calling for stronger security interventions.
