A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has raised alarm over the alleged continuous demolition of properties belonging to Igbo residents in Lagos State.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Igbokwe lamented that he has been inundated with distress calls from members of the Igbo community who claim their houses are being pulled down by officials of the Lagos State Government.

According to him, “Hundreds of Igbo in Lagos have called me for hours on end to complain of losing their houses. I am besieged every day on this matter.”

Igbokwe stressed that the Igbo community has played a significant role in the economic growth and development of Lagos, noting their massive investments in the state over several decades.

“Having lived in Lagos for over 40 years, I know the humongous investments of the Igbo in this state,” he said.

Expressing deep emotional exhaustion over the situation, the APC chieftain said the constant reports have left him overwhelmed and pressured, as he continues to seek a lasting solution to the crisis.

“I am besieged. I am tired. I am exhausted. I am choked up. I am diminished. I am weak. I am under pressure every day. I want a solution to this serious matter,” he stated.

Calling for peace and mutual understanding, Igbokwe appealed for stronger relationships between the Igbo and Yoruba communities in Lagos.

“I want bridges of understanding. I want bridges for mutual relationships. I want peaceful coexistence in Lagos. I want a new deal between the Igbo and the Yorubas in Lagos,” he added.

He also urged Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to urgently intervene in the matter and work towards an amicable resolution to prevent further tension and protect lives and properties.
