ICPC Raid: El-Rufai Not Above the Law, Investigation Must Be Transparent – Bukarti

Security expert Bulama Bukarti has stated that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is not above the law, insisting that any investigation into allegations against him must be conducted with full transparency and due process.

Bukarti made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, while reacting to the recent raid on El-Rufai’s residence by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The ICPC had disclosed that it recovered suspected wiretapping equipment from the former governor’s Abuja home. According to the commission, the devices were allegedly capable of intercepting private communications and accessing sensitive security documents.

Addressing the development, Bukarti emphasized the need for openness in the investigation, noting that the public deserves clarity on what was allegedly discovered.

“Transparency requires that the public see what was found in the house, if anything was found. But we don’t know the details,” he said.

He further stressed that law enforcement agencies must uphold legal standards throughout the process.

“The ICPC and other agencies need to understand that El-Rufai is entitled to full due process of law and his investigation must be transparent. He is not above the law,” Bukarti added.

The incident has continued to generate public interest, with calls for accountability and adherence to legal procedures as investigations proceed.
