Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has dismissed speculations of a possible return to the Presidential Villa, insisting she has no desire to go back to the seat of power.
Speaking in reaction to growing pressure on her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, to contest the 2027 presidential election, Mrs Jonathan said Nigeria’s challenges are too overwhelming for her to consider returning to such a position.
“The distress of Nigeria is so much that if God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify Him,” she said. “Why do you want to go back there? I need peace. My peace is enough.”
Her comments come amid renewed calls for former President Jonathan to join the 2027 race, with speculations suggesting he could contest under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, had recently cautioned Jonathan against bowing to pressure, reminding him of his defeat in the 2015 elections.
So far, Jonathan himself has remained silent, neither confirming nor denying intentions to run.
