I Am a Man of Destiny, They Could Not Stop Me — Fintiri Reflects on 2023 Election Ordeal

Yola, Adamawa State — Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has described the failed attempt to stop his re-election in the 2023 governorship election as just one of many plots he has overcome in his life, insisting that destiny ultimately prevailed.

Fintiri made the remarks on Monday during the public presentation of a book written about him, titled Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop.

According to the governor, while several efforts had been made over the years to derail his progress, the 2023 election represented the peak of those challenges. He said the episode reaffirmed his belief that he is guided by destiny.

“Going by the title of the book, Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop, the story of attempts to stop me cannot be captured in one book,” he said. “I am a man of destiny. There were many futile attempts, and the 2023 election was simply the height of them.”

The book recounts how Fintiri’s closest rival in the 2023 governorship race was prematurely declared winner before the final collation of results, a development that was later overturned when Fintiri was officially confirmed as the authentic winner of the election.

Describing the episode as deeply embarrassing, the governor said the events of 2023 dented not just Adamawa State, but Nigeria’s democratic image globally.

“In 2023, we witnessed treachery, assault, and the moral collapse of a bankrupt elite masquerading as patriots,” Fintiri said.

However, he noted that the incident ultimately strengthened his resolve and revealed the genuine support he enjoys among the people of Adamawa State and Nigerians at large.

The book was reviewed by Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, who praised the author, Mr. Solomon Kumanga, who served as Fintiri’s Director-General of Media during the 2023 election.
