Gunmen have killed a traditional ruler in Ondo State, Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area.
The state Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday in Akure by its spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the attack occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday. The division received a report around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, alerting authorities to the development.
Jimoh said preliminary information revealed that about six armed men stormed the monarch’s residence, forcefully took him from his compound and fled the scene.
“The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene,” the statement read.
He added that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside tactical teams, swiftly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits to track down the assailants.
Personnel from the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and members of the Atuluse Security outfit joined security operatives in combing nearby bushes and surrounding areas in search of the suspects.
The police said surveillance and monitoring activities had been intensified across the area to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
“The public is assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice,” Jimoh stated.
He urged residents with credible and actionable information to report to the nearest police station or contact the command as investigations continue.
