Gunmen Abduct Female INEC Staff

Bandits attack President Buhari’s advance convoy in Katsina

Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday abducted several staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Aloma Road in Kogi State.

The victims, all female officials, were reportedly travelling from Abuja to Anambra State on an official assignment ahead of the forthcoming governorship election when the attack occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants barricaded the highway, opened fire on the INEC vehicle, and shattered its windscreen. Fortunately, none of the occupants was struck by the bullets before they were overpowered and taken away.

The officials were said to be heading to Anambra to oversee the printing of voters’ registers and other election materials in preparation for the state’s governorship poll scheduled for the first week of November.

Reports indicate that the gunmen also abducted the driver of the vehicle and his wife, who was travelling with him.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer for confirmation and further details were unsuccessful.
