Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has revealed that he is under intense pressure from political figures urging him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking over the weekend at an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos, Mutfwang said that despite persistent lobbying, his loyalty remains with the PDP and the people who elected him.
“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me,” the governor disclosed. “But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people.”
The governor’s statement comes amid reports that some APC leaders in Plateau State have taken steps to discourage his alleged planned defection. During a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, party members reportedly passed a motion to reject any attempt by Mutfwang to join their ranks.
The motion, moved by former Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Festus Fuanter, emphasized that the party was confident of its current strength and did not require external reinforcements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Fuanter declared during the meeting.
In response, Governor Mutfwang dismissed the rejection as a reflection of fear within the APC, stressing that his focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Plateau State and staying true to his convictions.
