Less than 24 hours before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his resignation from the party, deepening the crisis rocking the PDP in the state.
Earlier on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, revealed that the scheduled primary would no longer hold due to intense factional disputes within the party. He also disclosed that Governor Adeleke had withdrawn from the nomination race amid the growing turmoil.
However, a separate directive from the PDP national secretariat contradicted the state chapter, insisting that the primary election would proceed on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
Amid the confusion, a letter signed by Governor Adeleke and dated November 4, 2025, surfaced Monday evening, confirming his resignation from the party. The letter, addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the national leadership crisis as the reason for his departure.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.
He further expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform that brought him into office, both as Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State.
Adeleke’s sudden exit has thrown the party into deeper uncertainty as it struggles to manage internal divisions ahead of a critical election.
