The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has raised alarm over what it described as persistent and unprovoked attacks on herders and their livestock by suspected Berom youths.

In a statement issued on behalf of the herders by the group’s Secretary, Abdullahi Yusuf, the community warned that such hostilities, if unchecked, could trigger reprisals and escalate into widespread violence.

The statement, titled “Another Attack on Fulani Herders in Riyom,” detailed an incident that occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when suspected youths reportedly ambushed a herder, Aliyu Sale Shehu, in Rim community of Riyom LGA. Shehu was said to have sustained gunshot injuries, while one cow was killed and eight others wounded.

“The Fulani community in Riyom wishes to draw attention to yet another unprovoked attack on our people. Since the attack on Sale, there has been no statement, no action, and no justice from the government or community leaders,” Yusuf said.

He lamented that herders are often branded as aggressors whenever they attempt to defend themselves, despite being victims of repeated violence.

The group called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to urgently intervene to prevent further bloodshed.

“The Fulani are equal citizens of Riyom and Plateau State. Our lives and properties must be protected. Enough is enough,” Yusuf emphasized.
