Fuel Price War: IPMAN to Slash Petrol to N750 as Dangote Refinery Kicks Off Direct Sales

0

Nigerian motorists may soon breathe easier as fuel prices are set for another significant drop. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to sell Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) at a maximum of N750 per liter nationwide starting January 2026.

The move follows a promise from Dangote Refinery to supply fuel directly to IPMAN members at N699 per liter. According to IPMAN President Abubakar Maigandi, the direct sales will eliminate transport costs, allowing independent marketers to pass on savings to consumers.

“You know, if you get to N699 per liter by the time you add transport, the product will arrive at about N750 to your filling station. Immediately when direct delivery starts, marketers will reduce prices,” Maigandi told DAILY POST.

The announcement comes amid a heated price competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently reduced its petrol price to N815 per liter at retail outlets in Abuja, but Dangote Refinery-backed MRS filling stations have been selling fuel at N739 per liter. Across the country, petrol prices currently range between N739 and N900 per liter.

Last December, Dangote Refinery cut its gantry price to N699 per liter from N838, setting the stage for the ongoing price war. While some areas still charge as high as N900 per liter, IPMAN’s new pricing plan aims to close the gap and ensure more Nigerians benefit from cheaper fuel.

With direct supply set to begin this month, motorists can expect a more consistent drop at the pumps, potentially easing one of the country’s most persistent daily expenses.
