In a major political realignment in Osun State, Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun-East) has announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside four other federal lawmakers, attributing the move to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructural and social interventions in their constituencies.
Fadahunsi, a two-term senator, joined Senators Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Hon. Oluwole Oke (Obokun/Ori-Ade), Hon. Sanya Omirin (Ijesa South), and Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro (Ife) in officially leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2025. The group was formally received into the APC in Osogbo during an event endorsing President Tinubu for a second term.
Speaking to newsmen, Fadahunsi explained that the decision followed years of reflection and consideration of the needs of their constituencies. “This is no whimsical decision. It’s a collective move by the political family in Osun State, comprising members of the National Assembly and state government actors,” he said, adding that their voices were often overlooked in the PDP.
Highlighting recent developments in Osun-East, the lawmaker pointed to the dualization of the Akure-Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan express road, restoration of water supply, over 700 kilometers of rural roads, establishment of the Orthopedic Hospital in Obokun, the School of Nursing in Ijebu-Jesa, and the Federal Medical Centre in Ilesa. Fadahunsi also mentioned bills awaiting presidential assent and the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Iragbiji, and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun.
He praised the Tinubu administration for providing quality health equipment to local hospitals and for initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, education, and community development through the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, which targets over 8.8 million Nigerians nationwide.
“Joining the APC, we are embracing a visionary partnership,” Fadahunsi said. “President Tinubu is not just a leader of our nation, but a partner in purpose, a man with the courage to make decisions that secure lasting prosperity for the future.”
The lawmakers’ endorsement of Tinubu for a second term is rooted in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure, economic policies, and security improvements, which they say have already begun to yield tangible benefits for their constituencies and the country at large.
This political shift underscores the growing influence of the APC in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
