Fire Guts Rivers State Secretariat Building Housing Pension Board in Port Harcourt

A section of the Rivers State Government Secretariat in Port Harcourt was engulfed by fire on Wednesday, leaving the building housing the state’s Pension Board severely affected.

According to TheCable, the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. The fire outbreak comes just weeks after President Bola Tinubu recalled suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly—following his declaration of a state of emergency in the oil-rich state on March 18, 2025.

Confirming the incident, Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, said firefighters from both the state and Federal Fire Services (FFS) are on the ground battling to put out the flames.

Sirawoo did not confirm whether there were any casualties as of the time of filing this report.
