Abuja, Nigeria – Tensions have escalated between former Ekiti State Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose and an aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, over comments surrounding a recent meeting between Atiku and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Minna.
Fayose had warned that he would reveal additional details about the Minna meeting if Atiku did not publicly distance himself from a statement issued by his media team. He described Ibe’s response as “amusing” and gave a 48-hour ultimatum for a rebuttal.
Responding on X, Ibe dismissed Fayose’s claims and clarified that he was not the author of the statement that drew Fayose’s ire. He said the statement titled “Peter Ayodele Fayose’s Beer Parlour Tales of Infamy” was written by another aide, Ambassador Phrank Shaibu.
“Is it possible that you may have been under the influence of some beverages when you read it?” Ibe mocked, suggesting that Fayose misinterpreted the statement. He further ridiculed the 48-hour ultimatum, adding, “I urge you to revert to me if you regain your sanity earlier than your projected recovery time of 48 hours.”
Fayose, however, reiterated that if Atiku does not publicly disown the statement, he will disclose more information about the Minna meeting, particularly concerning discussions about former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
“Till then, we keep our gunpowder dry,” Fayose said, signaling that the political back-and-forth is far from over.
