Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of abusing power and weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the South-West region.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, monitored by DAILY POST, Fayose alleged that Makinde had sidelined key party loyalists and monopolised state resources since assuming office.
According to him, the Oyo governor “took over all the choice lands in the state” and alienated many individuals who worked for his political emergence, claiming that “almost everybody who worked for his ascension has been driven away.”
Fayose further accused Makinde of dismantling the PDP’s political structure in the South-West, insisting that the party had lost cohesion under his influence.
He also raised concerns about the party’s internal process in Osun State, alleging irregularities in candidate selection. Fayose claimed that a candidate who did not purchase the PDP nomination form eventually emerged as the party’s flagbearer.
Recounting a personal experience, the former governor alleged that he was attacked during a political event in Osun State, accusing Makinde of orchestrating the incident. He described the Oyo governor as politically inexperienced, referring to him as “a small boy” in political terms.
Fayose, however, described himself as an elder statesman, stressing that he governed Ekiti State independently without the influence of political godfathers. “I fought my governorship without a godfather,” he said.
The former governor also openly declared his loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stating, “I’m a Wike person. Anywhere Wike is, that is where I am.”
Despite the internal disagreements, Fayose reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, insisting that he would never defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
