Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani‑Kayode on Tuesday described the attackers who killed five worshippers during early‑morning prayers in Yandoto village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, as “terrorists” and urged a forceful response.
Reacting on X, Fani‑Kayode said the violence should not be dismissed as ordinary banditry. “These are not bandits. Please stop calling them bandits. They are bloodthirsty killers and terrorists,” he wrote, adding that the killings amounted to an “act of war.” He warned against negotiations or ransom payments and said worshippers must be able to pray in safety.
Fani‑Kayode’s post expressed deep anger at the attack and called for decisive measures to prevent a repeat. “If our people cannot worship God in peace then we have nothing,” he wrote, arguing that punitive action was required to deter further attacks.
The assault in Yandoto is the latest in a series of violent incidents in parts of north‑west Nigeria that have raised concerns about civilian safety and the capacity of security forces to protect vulnerable communities. Authorities in Zamfara State and federal security agencies have not yet issued a public statement responding to Fani‑Kayode’s remarks.
Families of the victims and local leaders have called for justice and heightened protection for places of worship. The full circumstances of the attack remain under investigation.
