Ariko, KADUNA — The Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA) has refuted claims that 31 worshippers abducted during Easter Sunday services in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area, have been rescued by the Nigerian Army.
In a statement released on April 6, 2026, KUDA President J.D. Ariko described the reports as “inaccurate and misleading,” emphasizing that the abducted victims remain in the custody of their captors. Families of the victims are reportedly maintaining contact with the kidnappers, who have confirmed that the abductees are still alive.
“The claim that a rescue operation has taken place is entirely false,” the statement said, noting that spreading unverified information risks creating false hope for families and undermining public trust in official communication.
The abductions occurred following attacks by suspected bandits on two churches in Ariko during Easter services, which also resulted in multiple fatalities.
KUDA called on authorities to provide only verified updates and urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts to secure the safe and unconditional release of the victims. The association also pledged ongoing support for affected families and promised to share credible information as it becomes available.
As of this report, the Nigerian Army has not commented on the alleged rescue.
