Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has expressed strong reservations about the president seeking a second term in 2027, saying he has not shown the urgency or determination Nigeria needs at this critical time.
Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme monitored by DAILY POST, Baba-Ahmed said he had hoped President Tinubu would limit his ambition to a single term.
“I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again,” he noted. “When I left his administration, I told many people that I wished President Tinubu would not run in 2027. He said his ambition was to become president, and he has achieved that. He said ‘Emilokan,’ and he got his turn.”
Baba-Ahmed argued that the president has not lived up to expectations since assuming office.
“I don’t think he has run the country well,” he added. “The Tinubu we used to know—the one with the hunger, the sharpness, the strategic brilliance—has not shown that same drive to fix things.”
His comments add to growing public debate over the president’s performance and the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
