Abubakar Malami, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, following a ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court.
Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will remain in custody until January 2, 2026, when his written bail application is scheduled to be argued by his legal team.
The court denied an oral bail request on Tuesday, submitted by Malami’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu SAN, ruling that granting it would constitute an ambush on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has him on trial.
Justice Nwite explained that since a formal written bail application has been filed, it is in the interest of justice to allow the EFCC sufficient time to respond, as required by law.
Further updates are expected as the case progresses.
