Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC

Enugu, Nigeria – October 14, 2025 — Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state.

The governor made the announcement during a televised address on Tuesday, citing the need to align with a broader national vision and to secure a more promising future for Enugu State.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Governor Mbah declared.

Reflecting on his political journey, Mbah said he initially joined the PDP with the aim of transforming Enugu State and restructuring its political landscape. However, he noted that a new direction was now necessary to advance the state’s development goals.

“Today, I stand before you to announce a break from the past and to share a decision that will shape the road ahead,” he said. “This concerns our values, how we organize ourselves politically, and how we secure the future of our project and our people.”

The governor described the move as a “bold choice” driven by conviction and the need for visionary leadership.

“Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny,” he added.

Governor Mbah’s defection is expected to have far-reaching political implications in Enugu State, a traditional PDP stronghold, and could signal a shift in the region’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
