ENUGU — The Enugu State Police Command has dispelled claims linking last week’s deadly accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway to Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), confirming instead that the cement-laden truck belonged to Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, police said two separate crashes occurred on September 3, 2025, along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis, leaving 10 people dead and 10 others injured.
The first crash, which happened around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck branded with Visco Investment Global’s logo, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus. The collision triggered a fire that engulfed the truck head and Corolla, killing five occupants of the car on the spot, while a passenger in the mini bus also died.
A second crash occurred later in the day around 3 p.m., when a Sino truck carrying cement rammed into a tricycle, killing all four of its occupants. Police confirmed that ten survivors from both incidents are still receiving medical attention.
Describing the crashes as “avoidable,” Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa ordered a full investigation and cautioned motorists to be extra vigilant, especially during the high-risk Ember Months.
Meanwhile, Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from the incident, stressing that none of its trucks were involved.
“Investigations have revealed that the truck belongs to Visco Investment Global Limited,” the company said in a statement, noting that it was working with authorities to determine why the vehicle bore its logo without authorisation.
The conglomerate also condemned the “spread of misinformation” linking it to the tragedy, urging the public and media to verify facts before publication.
“We categorically reject any attempt to exploit such tragedies for malicious or financial gain,” DIL stated, pledging to cooperate with investigators while tightening measures against the misuse of its brand identity.
