Activities in Enugu were disrupted on Wednesday as the Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commenced its planned protest over worsening insecurity across the country.
The demonstration, led by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, drew workers and civil society supporters who marched through major parts of the state capital, bringing commercial and official activities to a near standstill.
Addressing protesters, Nwigbo decried the alarming level of insecurity in Nigeria, describing it as a major threat to the safety and livelihoods of citizens. He called on the federal and state governments to urgently strengthen security measures and ensure the protection of lives and property.
The protest in Enugu followed earlier developments in Abuja, where the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, alongside human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and other stakeholders, gathered at the Labour Congress headquarters to coordinate the nationwide action.
The NLC had earlier announced plans for a nationwide protest, insisting that the persistent insecurity across the country requires immediate and decisive government intervention.
