Tiwa Savage Slams Age-Shaming Critics, Defends Her Fashion Choices

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has boldly spoken out against the constant age-shaming she faces, particularly from Nigerians, for her bold fashion choices. The 44-year-old singer and mother discussed the backlash during a recent appearance on the Receipts podcast, where she expressed frustration over the criticism of her revealing outfits.

Savage, who is often scrutinized for wearing bikinis and other daring ensembles, contrasted her experience with that of American celebrities like Beyoncé. While Beyoncé, at 40+, is celebrated for her looks, Savage believes older female stars in Africa face harsh judgment for their appearance.

“They age-shame me every single day,” Savage said. “They say, a woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini? I can because I have a body.” She further emphasized the difference in perception between African and American cultures, noting that in the U.S., women in their 40s are often praised for maintaining youthful beauty.

The singer also addressed concerns about the impact of her fashion on her son, responding to critics who say her style might negatively influence him. “My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and beautiful woman,” she said, defending her right to express herself confidently.

Savage’s remarks shed light on the ongoing conversation about body image, ageism, and cultural differences in the entertainment industry.
