KADUNA — Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he will not contest for any political office in the 2027 general elections, insisting his renewed political involvement is about supporting credible leadership rather than personal ambition.
El-Rufai made the statement in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a group of youths, led by Aliyu Bello, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He sharply criticized the current administration, accusing it of deception and failure.
“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai said.
The former governor revealed that his initial plan after leaving office was to retire from partisan politics, but recent national realities compelled his return. He explained that his focus now is to mentor young people, women, and reform-minded citizens to take up active roles in governance.
El-Rufai also urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to register and participate in the electoral process, stressing that political change cannot happen without voter engagement.
