Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing senior officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
In a letter dated September 8, 2025, El-Rufai urged the Commission to open an immediate and impartial probe into what he described as “unlawful and unconstitutional conduct” by the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Command.
“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” his petition partly read.
The petition follows a series of confrontations between El-Rufai and the Kaduna Police Command. On August 30, 2025, the former governor and several opposition politicians were attacked by suspected thugs during a meeting in Kaduna.
El-Rufai alleged that police officers stood by as the attackers unleashed violence, accusing the Command of colluding with the hoodlums.
In a twist, reports last week indicated that the Kaduna Police Command had invited El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
The unfolding rift between the former governor and the police has heightened political tensions in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 general elections.
