KADUNA — Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his successor, Governor Uba Sani, of being behind the violent attack on him and other opposition figures during a political event in the state.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the official inauguration of a transition committee jointly formed by opposition parties, where suspected thugs invaded the venue, unleashing chaos and vandalizing property.
Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, El-Rufai alleged that the attack was orchestrated by the state government and claimed he had credible proof linking Governor Uba Sani to the violence.
“I have evidence; Kaduna State Governor is behind Saturday’s attacks. I will submit evidence to the IGP and other authorities if they care to investigate,” the former governor declared.
El-Rufai further condemned the role of security operatives during the incident, accusing them of complicity through inaction.
“The policing system has collapsed in Nigeria. Police officers were there, watching while opposition figures were being attacked,” he lamented.
The development has sparked tension in Kaduna’s political space, raising concerns over the safety of opposition activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
