As Muslims across Nigeria and the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, President Bola Tinubu has urged citizens to uphold the values of piety, compassion, and unity beyond the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated Muslim faithful and called for renewed commitment to nation-building and humanity. He emphasised that the lessons of Ramadan—selflessness, perseverance, and kindness—must remain guiding principles in daily life.
President Tinubu also encouraged Muslims to extend generosity to people of all faiths and tasked religious leaders with offering prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.
Similarly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, described the completion of Ramadan as a turning point for the country, expressing optimism that prayers offered during the period would usher Nigeria into a “new dawn” despite its socio-economic and security challenges.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar congratulated Muslims while urging the Federal Government to prioritise the protection of lives and property. He stressed that sustaining the virtues of Ramadan requires both personal commitment and responsible governance.
Across states, governors echoed similar messages of unity, vigilance, and sustained devotion. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, called on residents to remain security-conscious during the celebrations, while Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, urged prayers for national prosperity and a peaceful governorship election in the state.
In Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah emphasised unity and sacrifice, while Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, highlighted the importance of compassion, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Adding a traditional perspective, the Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, warned that Nigeria’s progress is being hindered by declining moral values, stressing that development without ethical foundations could worsen societal challenges.
Corporate and security stakeholders also weighed in. Telecommunications company Globacom encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the spiritual lessons of Ramadan, while the Nigeria Police Force assured citizens of adequate security nationwide, with heightened deployment of personnel and surveillance during the festivities.
Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) advised its members to celebrate peacefully and avoid carrying items that could be perceived as weapons, urging restraint and respect for the law.
As celebrations continue, leaders across sectors have reinforced a common message: sustaining the values of Ramadan—faith, unity, discipline, and compassion—remains critical to building a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
