EFCC Set to Prosecute Former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, and Daughter for Alleged Abuse of Office

Former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, is scheduled to appear before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, this Thursday, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) moves to arraign him on a six-count amended charge.

Accompanying Sirika in the dock are three others, including his daughter, Fatima, Jalal Hamma, and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd. They face allegations of abuse of office amounting to N2.7 billion.

The EFCC’s investigations into financial misconduct allegedly perpetrated by Sirika during his tenure as minister have led to his detention since April 23 in Abuja.

Sources within the EFCC revealed that the former minister was detained following questioning about fraudulent contracts awarded during his tenure. The commission had been probing these irregularities even while Sirika was still in office, having previously met with investigators.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the arraignment was postponed to accommodate the EFCC’s request to amend the charges.
