Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja (Olimene Ata Igala), has dismissed reports claiming he has been appointed as the Managing Director of Maritime Services.
The clarification follows a wave of congratulatory messages and social media posts congratulating the former deputy governor on the purported new federal appointment.
In a statement released on his verified Facebook page, Onoja described the report as false, stressing that his only current portfolio is that of a Board Member at the South East Development Commission (SEDC), where he represents the North Central geopolitical zone.
He wrote:
“My attention has been drawn to a story currently circulating on social media suggesting that I have received a new appointment from His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
For the avoidance of doubt, my current and only portfolio remains that of Board Member, South East Development Commission (SEDC), representing the North Central geopolitical zone — a responsibility for which I remain profoundly grateful to Mr. President.”
Onoja expressed appreciation for the goodwill and kind messages he received but reiterated his commitment to his present assignment and to working with the leadership of the Commission to advance President Tinubu’s vision for the South East region and the country at large.
He also used the opportunity to call for national unity beyond regional or political lines, urging Nigerians to focus on collective progress.
“May I also use this opportunity to remind us that beyond our regional or political affiliations, we are first and foremost Nigerians. Our shared destiny requires that we stand together, integrate our strengths, and unite our hearts in building the nation of our collective dreams,” he added.
