Ejikeme Mmesoma, a student at Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra State, who was accused of faking her UTME score, appears to have struck gold, as Gaius Chibueze from Enugu State has given her an international scholarship.

According to Fabian Benjamin, a JAMB official, the student, who was highly hailed for achieving 362 and claimed to be the highest for the 2023 UTME, scored 249 in the exam.

Benjamin said the student tampered with the initial result to gain favour. He later said that the results would be revoked and that Mmesoma would face prosecution.

Mmesoma, however, stated on Monday that she printed her result from the JAMB page and was incapable of manipulating it.

She claimed she had always been a brilliant student, holding first place since primary school.

Mmesoma stated that she was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide a statement, and that she was informed that the investigation was ongoing.

She stated that the occurrence had traumatized her and that “there must be a problem somewhere.”

While the debate continues, Mr Chibueze announced on Monday night via his verified Twitter account, “I and our company @VoiceOfTheEast are ready to offer Miss Joy Mmesoma a 100% scholarship to study in the UK, CANADA, or America.”

“Our team will work with her to secure admission to any university of her choice in any of the three countries listed above. We will pay her fees and maintain her until she reaches masters level.

“@lota_nna, please contact her and her family!”

He also urged the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to cease harassing Mmesoma, adding that JAMB’s actions are also an Igbo race issue.

“We are requesting that @JAMBHQ refrain from such unprofessional behavior. This is an attack not just on her person, but on the entire Igbo race!”
