The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed no fewer than 1,200 personnel across the state in preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The State Commandant, Commandant Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Benin City.
According to Ayinla, the deployment, which covers the three senatorial districts of the state, is aimed at ensuring adequate security before, during, and after the festive period.
He said the move is part of the Command’s proactive strategy to safeguard lives, property, and critical national assets throughout the celebrations.
The Commandant explained that the personnel were drawn from various tactical and operational units of the Corps, including the Counter-Terrorism Squad, Anti-Vandal Unit, Female Squad, Agro-Rangers, Commandant Monitoring and Surveillance Team, and Mining Marshals, among others.
He added that operatives have been strategically stationed at key locations across the state, such as places of worship and prayer grounds, recreational and event centres, major highways, markets, and other strategic and vulnerable areas to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety.
Ayinla assured residents of the state of the Corps’ commitment to providing a secure and peaceful environment that will enable citizens and visitors to celebrate the season without fear.
While warning criminal elements to steer clear of the state, he stressed that the NSCDC would deal decisively with anyone found breaching the law.
He also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and ensure swift response.
