Ebonyi Rep, Nkemkanma Kama Dumps Labour Party After “Extensive Consultations”

The lawmaker representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, has formally resigned his membership of the Labour Party (LP).

Kama announced his decision in a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the party in Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He explained that his defection came after wide-ranging consultations with his family, political associates, and supporters, stressing that it was a step taken in the best interest of his constituents.

“After careful consideration, I concluded that this decision is necessary for the greater good of my people,” the lawmaker stated.

Kama, who secured his House of Representatives seat in the 2023 general elections under the LP platform, expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for their support.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner,” he wrote.

Although he did not disclose his next political destination, sources indicate that he may be heading to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His resignation comes amid the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party, which has triggered a wave of defections among party stakeholders nationwide.
