Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali Operates Without Aides Two Years Into Office

Two years after assuming office, Taraba State’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, is yet to have any aide officially appointed to his office — a situation that has sparked concern among political observers and government insiders.

While Governor Agbu Kefas’s office is fully staffed with advisers and support personnel, Alkali continues to operate without key aides, including a Chief Press Secretary — a crucial position for managing communications with the media and the public.

Several government sources who spoke to DAILY POST under anonymity described the development as “disturbing,” warning that the absence of aides has hindered the deputy governor’s performance and may have worsened his reported health challenges.

“I believe the deputy governor’s health situation could have been better managed if he had the necessary aides,” one source said. “It’s shocking that more than two years into his tenure, he still doesn’t even have a press secretary to handle media matters.”

According to insiders, the deputy governor had earlier submitted a list of proposed aides and received approval for their appointments. However, the process has allegedly been stalled by powerful figures within the administration who have refused to issue appointment letters.

“This is no longer a bureaucratic delay; it’s now an issue of human dignity and administrative efficiency,” another source stated. “Governor Kefas needs to intervene and allow the deputy governor to assemble his team. It will ease the pressure on him and restore proper functioning to his office.”

Political analysts view the development as a reflection of simmering internal power struggles within the state government.

Critics are now calling on Governor Kefas to address the issue promptly and ensure that the deputy governor receives the necessary support to perform his constitutional duties.

As of the time of filing this report, the governor’s office has not issued any official statement on the matter.
