A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has reacted to the defection of former Bayelsa Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the move did not come as a surprise.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST on Friday, the Ovation Magazine publisher said Murray-Bruce simply chose the path that appeared more convenient in the current political climate.
“I watched it in utter disbelief because I assumed that he worked with us in the Atiku campaign during the presidential election. That was my belief—maybe my judgment was wrong,” Momodu said.
He, however, acknowledged Murray-Bruce’s constitutional right to freedom of association, saying, “I don’t have any problem with it. Nothing can ever shock me again about politicians.”
Momodu added that while some defections are driven by genuine reasons or personal aspirations, Murray-Bruce’s move to the APC reflected a broader trend among politicians seeking ease and advantage.
“So, Murray-Bruce moving to the APC is not surprising; that is where the road is smooth at the moment,” he stated. “Those of us in the opposition are regarded as very stupid and not smart enough for not joining the rat race.”
