Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Thursday held a strategic meeting with members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC), fueling speculation about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The high-level meeting comes amid growing indications that the governor is weighing a move to join the ruling party as political realignments intensify ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, one of the APC lawmakers, who did not disclose his identity, described the engagement as part of ongoing consultations on shifting political dynamics both nationally and within Bauchi State.
“We are here today as members of the National Assembly to meet with our governor and leader on a special invitation to deliberate on the ongoing political realignment in Nigeria, particularly in our state,” the lawmaker said.
He added that discussions were productive and hinted at a forthcoming announcement.
“We have reached a positive understanding, and in a short while, we will make our position known to the public,” he stated.
The development follows an earlier meeting between Governor Mohammed and key stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further underscoring his ongoing consultations as he evaluates his political future.
Political observers say the governor’s engagements across party lines signal a significant shift that could reshape the political landscape in Bauchi State in the lead-up to the next election cycle.
