The Ogun Police Command apprehended Akeem Owonikoko, 33, a suspected armed robber, along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin Highway. Omolola Odutola, a police spokesman, verified this to reporters in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Odutola revealed that the culprit was apprehended following a 24-hour operation headed by ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi, Area Commander, Ijebu Ode.

She stated that the suspect made a confessional statement in which he claimed that an Inspector of Police simply known as Ola supplied the weaponry used by the gang.

“Owonikoko was spotted in a Toyota Camry driving inward Ijebu Ode from Ososa and as soon as he spotted the police, he diverted into a close,” Odutola added.

“The suspect, who was disguised in a Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) uniform and the mastermind of several heinous crimes, attempted to outwit the cops but was apprehended. A black cellophane bag containing 32 expended rounds, 78 live cartridges, and a locally made short pistol was discovered when searching the vehicle he had previously abandoned.

“Another magnum pump action riffle, one double barrel shotgun, one locally fabricated double barrel pistol, stunt pistol chocker, an unregistered silver color Toyota Camry and green color Toyota Sienna Bus marked KNN 58 TD Ogun were also recovered.

“Others recovered include a liquid chemical, a black beret with Aiye Confraternity insignia, cannabis, hard drugs, an ATM card, a Power bank, two Apple wristwatches, two cell phones, and a poisonous charm.”

According to the Police Spokesman, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has directed the police to pursue the remaining suspects. She emphasized that the Ijebu-Ode Area Command has continued to raise the bar in the fight against crime.

Odutola went on to say that the commissioner of police was still committed to ridding the state of criminals.
