Police Inspector Gbenga Fajuyi was given a 22-year prison sentence in the Correctional Facility by a Minna Senior Magistrate Court in Niger State for impregnating his 13-year-old daughter.
It was claimed that from the time his biological daughter was 12 years old until she became pregnant at age 13, Fajuyi had had carnal knowledge of her.
He was charged with three counts totaling illicit sexual intercourse, incest, impregnating a female student, and criminal intimidation in violation of sections 390.25.3, 397.B, and 18(2) of the Niger State Child Right Law (2010). He was brought before Senior Magistrate Christy Barau.
The prosecution further claimed that Fajuyi threatened to kill his daughter if she told anyone that he was to blame for the pregnancy.
The prosecution continued to tell the court that Fajuyi carried the newborn infant to a river after the girl was put to bed, strangled the child to death, and dumped the body into the water.
“It is sad that this convict, who is a police officer and law enforcement officer saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property or fighting crime in the society, will be involved in this type of crime,” Senior Magistrate Christy Barau said in her ruling of the police inspector as “a monster and a disgrace to the police force.”
The judge questioned how Fajuyi could be so “inhuman towards his own biological daughter, a little girl, by putting her through all these horrible experiences of having to rape her at such a tender age, forcing her into becoming an adult, and denying her childhood.”
Fajuyi was given a sentence of 22 years in prison without the possibility of a fine by Christy Barau, who also stated that the sentence should be served consecutively.
