Assassination-Attempt-On-Gov.-Bello-DHQ-Reveals-Those-Responsible

Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, the director of defense information at defense headquarters, has refuted claims that his employees accosted Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, on Sunday as he traveled from Lokoja, the state capital, to an official engagement a few kilometers away in Abuja.

According to Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, the attackers, who were dressed in military uniforms, ambushed the governor’s envoy and began firing at his vehicle.

The attack, he claimed, was thwarted by the fast action of security personnel, and he emphasized that national security personnel would look into the event.

Tukur Gusau refuted the assertion in an interview with Punch, claiming that Bello’s assailants were thieves wearing fake military uniforms.

Gusau urged the police to investigate the matter to unravel the circumstances and ensure the culprits were brought to justice.

He said, “The attack is unfortunate, and we are not happy with what happened. However, the governor did not say it was the military that attacked him. Military personnel will never attack the governor. He said his attackers were in military uniforms. His attackers are criminals. We urged the police to investigate the matter and unravel the circumstances and those involved in the attack.”
