Court Declares Ebonyi LG Elections Unconstitutional, Nullifies 13 Council Chairmen’s Mandates

Abakaliki—A Federal High Court, Abakaliki Division, on Tuesday nullified the election that brought the current 13 council chairmen and their councilors into office in Ebonyi State, ruling the process unconstitutional.

The court cited the 2024 local government elections conducted by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) as being in disobedience and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

This is the second time a court has voided local government elections in the state, following a similar ruling that nullified the August 2022 elections over the same unlawful procedure.

Further details are awaited.
