Cameroon became the fourth nation to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after edging South Africa 2–1 in a tense encounter in Rabat on Sunday night.
The Indomitable Lions took control of the match in the first half when Junior Tchamadeu broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, rewarding Cameroon’s early dominance.
Their grip on the game tightened shortly after the restart, as Christian Kofane struck just two minutes into the second half to double Cameroon’s advantage, putting the Central Africans firmly in command.
South Africa, however, refused to go down without a fight. Evidence Makgopa pulled one back in the 88th minute with a well-taken finish, sparking a nervy finale, but Cameroon held their nerve to see out the win.
With the victory, Cameroon joins Morocco, Mali and Senegal in the last eight of the tournament, as the race for the 2025 AFCON title continues to gather momentum.
