We’re-Not-Reopening-Ladipo-Market-For-Environmental-Reasons-Lagos-Govt

The Lagos State Government has turned down petitions from Ladipo auto spare part market dealers to reopen the business premises, days after it was closed for violating sanitation standards in the state.

It added that the car parts sellers needed to improve some environmental and safety conditions before resuming company operations.

Meanwhile, the State Government, through its Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has restored some markets that had been closed after traders followed the government’s guidelines. The markets that have reopened include Oyingbo, Ile Epo Oke-Odo, and Alamutu.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who issued the explanation, stated that the market remained closed because its management had not completely followed the Authority’s previously established mandatory safety and environmental standards.

He said, “Our primary concern is the safety of the people and environmental well-being at marketplaces. Reopening is contingent upon strict adherence to the safety conditions set forth by LAWMA. It is imperative that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent any potential risks.”

Gbadegesin said in a statement released on Monday by LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Folashade Kadiri, that while several markets had successfully met the outlined safety requirements and had been allowed to resume business, Ladipo Market would also reopen to business activities once it passed the required safety audit.
