Sanwo-Olu-To-Inaugurate-Red-Line-Rail-Overpass-Bridge-Today

On Thursday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will open the rail mass transit (LRMT) red line overpass bridge at Yaba. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s (LAMATA) head of corporate communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The bridge will undoubtedly enhance traffic movement along the Yaba-Ojuelegba axis and into neighbouring regions of the state.

Ojelabi said, “The T-shaped bridge takes traffic from Murtala Muhammed Way into Ojuelegba Road and vice versa over the rail tracks.

“Traffic into Ojuelegba Road from Murtala Muhammed had been through a rail level crossing and this often led to huge delays for train operations apart from the high potential for accidents with vehicles and pedestrians.

“The Yaba Overpass Bridge is one of the four new bridges built by the Sanwo-Olu’s administration on the Red Line rail alignment to eliminate vehicular/pedestrian and train traffic interaction.”

According to him, the red line, which the governor had assured Lagos residents would soon begin operations, will move more easily thanks to the bridge.

Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA (Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority), stated that the overpass bridge will end frequent accidents at level crossings during his remarks on the bridge’s completion.

Akinajo continued, “Red-line trains, which will be frequent, will also be able to travel freely across the bridge.”

She said, “We have completed the four bridges that we designed for the Red Line. The Yaba Overpass Bridge is one. The others are at Ikeja, Mushin and Oyingbo.”

She claims that the Ministry of Transportation has promised that they will begin construction on the four of them very soon.
