Fuel Subsidy: Approve N500bn As Palliatives, Tinubu Writes to House of Reps

The House of Representatives has received a letter from President Bola Tinubu requesting a change to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.

According to him, the change will enable the Federal Government to obtain N500 billion for palliatives to lessen the impact of subsidy termination.

Wednesday’s plenary session featured Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, reading the president’s letter.

“Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act” was the letter’s title.

According to Tinubu, the N819.5 billion supplementary appropriations act for 2022 will provide the funding.

“I write to request the approval of the House of Representatives for an amendment of the 2022 appropriation act per the law.

“The request has become necessary in other to source funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.

“The sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the 2022 appropriation act of N819.536 for the provision of palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. I expect that the House will speedily consider the request,” the letter read.

At Thursday’s plenary, Tinubu’s appeal would be taken into consideration, said the speaker.
