In a devastating turn of events, the Kogi State Government has announced the tragic killing of two students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, by their kidnappers. The students, part of a group that had been abducted, were killed while negotiations for their release were ongoing.

The State Government had mobilized extensive resources in an effort to rescue all the kidnapped students, successfully securing the release of 21. Unfortunately, despite the involvement of both conventional security forces and local hunters, two students were killed at the kidnappers’ hideout in Kwara State.

“This is an attack on us as a State and the killers of our students will not go unpunished,” declared the Honorable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo. The Commissioner emphasized that the government is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the remaining captives are released.

Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is actively engaging with the Governors of neighboring states, including Kwara and Ekiti, to disrupt the criminals’ hideouts and bring those responsible to justice. The Governors have expressed their commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the region.

The Kogi State Government extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pledges full support during this period of profound grief. The government also sympathizes with the entire CUSTECH community and the communities of the affected students.

In a resolute statement, the government affirmed its commitment to preventing future incidents and strengthening security measures to protect students and citizens alike. “Terror is cowardice for only a coward will attack those seeking knowledge in schools,” the statement read.

The tragic loss of these young lives has cast a pall of mourning over Kogi State. The government, standing in solidarity with the bereaved families and the educational community, vows to honor the memory of the fallen students by intensifying efforts to ensure safety and justice.
